Police charge man after stabbing at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged following a stabbing incident that took place in the Lake Illawarra area. The incident occurred at around 1:40 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, when emergency services received a call about a man who had been injured at a residence on Avondale Road in Avondale.

Officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District arrived at the scene to find a 40-year-old man with a stab wound to his hand. The injured man received medical treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Wollongong Hospital. Thankfully, his condition was stable.

At the scene, the police arrested a 37-year-old man who was known to the injured man. The suspect was then taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with “wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.” As of now, the man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the Wollongong Local Court today.
