Busy Illawarra Weekend for Marine Rescue NSW
A crew from Marine Rescue Port Kembla had a busy weekend, rescuing multiple people and vessels in need of assistance along the Illawarra Coast.
Rescue Operation off Windang
On Saturday morning, the crew received a distress call about a vessel that was seriously disabled and at risk of sinking 15 kilometers off Windang. The vessel, a 5-6 meter motor cruiser, had suffered engine failure and was struggling to contain the water entering the boat.
Responding swiftly, the volunteers aboard Port Kembla 31 arrived at the scene and successfully transferred the three individuals from the endangered boat to the rescue vessel. They ensured the safety of everyone involved and prevented the sinking of the vessel.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Stuart Massey praised the efforts of the crew and noted that it was a busy morning on the Illawarra Coast.
Additional Rescue Operations
As the Port Kembla crew was carrying out the initial rescue, volunteers aboard Shellharbour 30 responded to another distress call near Bass Islet off Port Kembla. They safely brought back two individuals in need of assistance and their vessel from the location and returned to Shellharbour Marina.
However, their work was not yet done. While leaving Port Kembla, the Shellharbour 30 crew received another call to assist a distressed vessel off Bass Point. They successfully rescued the two people on board and their vessel, ensuring their safe return to the Shellharbour Marina.

The series of rescue operations conducted by the Marine Rescue Port Kembla and Shellharbour crews showcases the dedication and commitment of these volunteers. Despite the challenges, they managed to successfully respond to all distress calls and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
