Wollongong City Council has partnered with Endeavour Energy and EVX Australia to pilot the installation of kerbside Electric Vehicle (EV) charging sites. These charging stations will be set up at five different locations, spanning from Wollongong to Austinmer.
The council is actively seeking feedback on this initiative from the community. Feedback can be submitted through an online form, via email, or in writing. The deadline for submitting feedback is August 28, 2023.
This project is aimed at enhancing the availability and accessibility of EV charging options in the Wollongong area. By installing kerbside charging stations, the council hopes to encourage more residents to adopt EVs by providing them with convenient and reliable charging infrastructure.
The partnership with Endeavour Energy and EVX Australia signifies a collaborative effort between the council and energy companies to support the transition to sustainable transportation. As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, it is essential to expand the charging infrastructure network to accommodate the growing demand.
The introduction of kerbside EV charging sites will provide a practical solution for EV owners who may not have access to private charging facilities. These public charging stations will enable EV drivers to charge their vehicles while parked on the streets, making it more convenient for them to maintain their vehicles’ battery levels.
The initiative is part of Wollongong City Council’s broader sustainability goals, as electric vehicles offer several environmental benefits compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. By encouraging the adoption of EVs, the council aims to reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a clean energy future.
